MasterCard used smart card technology to make credit and debit payments easier
Smart card technology will make payments easier for customers using MasterCard PayPass to conduct credit and debit card transactions.
Plastic card manufacturer CPI Card Group teamed up with Inside Contactless to develop its new contact-less payment sticker that will enable MasterCard customers to make payments from any mobile device. The sticker uses smart card technology developed by the two companies to apply the functionality of traditional MasterCard payment services to mobile devices.
Officials with Inside Contactless see smart card technology as an opportunity to get involved with the growing mobile payment market. Charles Walton, executive vice president for Inside Contactless, said that the partnership "demonstrates our commitment to the mobile payments market," and that "these stickers have the potential to transform the mobile payment market in the U.S."
Cathleen Conforti, senior vice president of Global PayPass, said that the new payment solutions are "an essential part of MasterCard PayPass and play an important role in advancing mobile payments."
While smart card technology has made mobile devices capable for credit card payments, other companies, like Boku and Zong, have used applications on devices like the iPad and Android smart phone for mobile payment solutions.
