An industry organization recently issued its highest security certification to security technology on plastic card development
Authorities in the plastic card payment industry recently recognized technology from the Gift Card Hub for the security measures available on its products.
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards Council recently issued its highest security compliance certification – PCI DSS Level 1 – to the Gift Card Hub, a retail and restaurant plastic card provider. The certification recognizes technology on plastic payment cards that ensures security measures protecting the illegitimate use of plastic cards for payment. The Gift Card Hub is owned by Texas-based plastic card developer the Interpro Group.
Officials with the Interpro Group recently explained the effort the company put into its security initiative to earn the recognition. Butch Johnson, the company’s president, said "our team has worked diligently to secure PCI DSS, the standard provided to organizations, to give consumers guidance and security to ensure their credit card holder information is kept secure from any possible security breach."
Security advancements in the industry are expected to drive up demand for gift cards. A recent study projects the market for smartcard payment solutions to grow by 13 to 17 percent by 2012 after a Europay, MasterCard and Visa security standard was recently implemented on smartcards used in the retail and financial sectors.
