A new prepaid cellphone payment system allows smartcards to access accounts in public locations in Warsaw, Poland
A recent program in Poland will allow cellphone users to manage their phone’s account information and pay at machines that accept payments via magnetic strip cards and smartcards.
Polish smartcard payment solution provider ASEC recently announced the program designed to offer a convenient payment method for prepaid cellphones in the area. Through the program, users can load their prepaid cellphone cards onto a TVM account management machine installed at metro, railway and major bus stations in Warsaw. The machine accepts smartcard payments, providing prepaid cellphone users a quick, convenient solution for activating their prepaid accounts.
Executives from On Track Innovations, ASEC’s American parent company, explained the company’s recent initiative to offer convenient smartcard payment systems to new markets. Oded Bashan, chairman and chief executive officer of OTI, said "the addition of a new service throughout the life of the project is part of our strategy to leverage the already-installed infrastructure for new products that generate additional revenues, which contribute to the profitability of the project."
Smartcard payment systems are becoming more common in European markets. Earlier this week, a major payment solution provider announced a new smartcard program for train and bus payments in major European cities.
