Manufacturers of ID card printer systems expect 2010 to be an improvement in 2009 in total sales, but the industry does not expect revenues to rise very much, according to a report from CRN, an Australian technology news site.
With many manufacturers pushing lower-priced objects and offering deals, small businesses and organizations will likely be inclined to spend more money on printers, but not to pre-recessesion levels, according to Dave Finn, Kyocera managing director.
"Ideally 2010 will be an improvement on unit sales versus calendar year 2009. However, as most vendors are pushing their products with the latest ‘hottest offer,’ the overall generated industry revenue will take a bit longer to recover than unit sales," Finn told the news provider.
Improvements in technology have helped manufacturers save money and appeal to more customers with more energy-efficient machines. Several new products offer energy-saving solutions such as automatic power off, and use 50 percent less energy than older models.
Kyocera announced in February the development of its latest product, which is the fastest printhead currently available on the market.
