Doctors, paramedics and other emergency responders began using plastic ID cards provided by Oberthur Technologies, a leading producer of ID cards and card printer systems, to gain secure entrance to emergency facilities.
The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council implemented the system to secure entrance to all 35 area hospitals as badges worked at all facilities to make entrances more secure and more efficient during emergencies. The system allows for the program to be updated seamlessly everyday as workers’ access to certain sites and facilities changes as needed.
STRAC will endorse Oberthur at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia from March 1 though March 4.
"Oberthur’s cards allow us to deploy handheld authentication devices at the perimeter of an emergency area to validate the identity of personnel arriving at the scene, regardless of whether they are from the local, state or federal level," said Eric Epley, executive director of STRAC.
Oberthur also announced recently the development of a new UV-curable ink jet printer for producing plastic ID cards. The printer limits card design far less than its predecessors, according to the company.
