Two retirement communities in North Carolina and another in Virginia recently announced that they have implemented a new identification management solution by issuing plastic ID cards to all residents that allow for building access and are linked to prepaid spending accounts for use within the community, according to CR80News.com.
The communities received positive feedback from their residents due to the convenience of the system. The measure was such a success, the facilities are considering adding new features and capabilities to the smartcards to make life in the communities even more convenient for their elderly residents. Cardholders can access their accounts and make changes at any time throughout the day and week.
United Church and Home Services, a nonprofit church-based service that owns and operates nine retirement communities throughout North Carolina and Virginia, manages all three communities and is considering implementing the plastic ID cards at the remaining six locations.
Smartcard-based identification management solutions have long been implemented at colleges and universities where they have been a success for the same reasons. At both retirement homes and college campuses, the security provided by card-only building access has been a welcomed change for residents and their families.
