Aimed at improving life for college students across the United States, Blackboard, a leading producer of plastic ID card technology, announced recently its newest product that makes student life easier and, most importantly, more secure.
Simply waving the card over a specialized target allows for immediate payment or entrance. It’s not uncommon to see a line backed up by a student fumbling over a wallet or digging through purse to find an ID card. Blackboard Transact eliminates all the hassle related to plastic ID cards.
"We saw Blackboard’s contactless solution as a way for us to keep pace with rapidly changing technology by adopting a solution based on industry standards," said Nirmal Palliyaguru, director of access and conference services at Santa Clara University. "We knew that Blackboard Transact would help us solve the challenge of increasing data security and establish a base from which we could expand the platform in years to come."
In recent years, universities have expanded the use of plastic ID cards to allow students to use them to make purchases by placing money into an account linked to the card. Making the purchase process faster is the next step in campus identification management solutions.
The cards use Sony’s FeliCia technology, which has been hailed in the ID management community for its speed and commitment to security.
