Students and faculty at DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the United States, can now link their school-issued plastic ID cards with PNC bank. The institutions announced the partnership on March 1, and PNC expects to develop similar relationships with colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
DePaul was an especially attractive opportunity for PNC as the bank operates more than 130 branches in the surrounding Chicagoland area. To make the option more convenient for students, ATMs will be installed on the campus during the school’s spring break next week.
"PNC is excited to offer DePaul students and employees a smarter way to bank with convenient locations on campus, ATMs throughout Chicagoland and cutting-edge online banking services through our Virtual Wallet Student product," said Joseph Gregoire, president of Illinois banking at National City, now a part of PNC. "Our commitment to DePaul extends beyond traditional banking services and into unique money management solutions."
Developing further uses for students’ plastic ID cards has become a primary goal of colleges and universities. Students at Providence College can now use their school ID to make purchases at three area stores.
