Students at Georgia Institute of Technology will soon be able to make purchases at the school’s sporting events using their school-issued plastic ID cards. The university’s Student Government Association announced the plan following statistics from Auburn University that showed a 50 percent sales increases thanks to the plastic ID card use, according to Technique, Georgia Tech’s student newspaper.
Georgia Tech, a state-funded university in Atlanta, Georgia, plans to implement the program at the school’s baseball games this spring with the aim of enabling plastic ID card use at football games in the fall.
"The ultimate goal with the pilot program would be to take it into the football stadium. Several of our peer institutions have had fantastic success integrating student cards and football concessions, both financially and in terms of student satisfaction,” Kaitlyn Whiteside, a student official at Georgia Tech, told the news provider.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, announced a similar plan last week. The program at UNC will enable spending throughout the campus, however, according to card provider CBord.
