Faculty at the University of Central Florida have recently begun using their students’ ID cards to prevent cheating, according to a report from My Fox Orlando.

The university’s business school, often considered a national leader in anti-cheating measures, forces students to present their plastic ID cards upon arrival at test time. To make sure students are taking the correct test, their ID cards are swiped through a computer system that tells administrators what test the student is supposed to take and what materials they are allowed to use.

The school’s ID card scanning process is part of its overall upgrade in preventative measures against student cheating. With growing classroom sizes and evolving technologies, Associate Dean Taylor Ellis recently explained the ID card system is just one of many technological advances meant to keep up with students’ evolving cheating capabilities. In an interview with the New York Times, he said "I will never stop it completely, but I’ll find out about it."

The in-class ID card scanning process will be part of the school’s recent enhancement to its ID cards, which will be updated for the upcoming fall semester.
