In hopes of limiting the amount of paper used and to make the event more efficient, the World Model UN’s coordinators opted to issue plastic ID cards to its attendees rather than tickets, according to Focus Taiwan. The event, which hosts students from around the world, takes place over several days, and the students move from room to room for different events.
In years past, the hosts issued tickets for entry to every room and every conference. The plastic ID cards can also be used by students to travel throughout the city as they are linked to a prepaid account.
"We were given many tickets when we attended the event in the past, which could be really confusing," Jason Hou, a National Taiwan University student, told the news provider. "This year, we launched what we called the Super Card, which helps reduce the use of paper. This type of card is one of Taiwan’s best technologies, and we must let foreigners see it."
Now in its 19th year, the World Model UN conference allows students from different nations to discuss issues affecting their daily lives. The inaugural event took place in Miedzyzdroje, Poland in 1992. Since, four continents have hosted the event.
