Mendocino County, California recently announced that it will raise fees on plastic ID cards used for users of medical marijuana.

As part of a sweeping move that raised fees on several county services, the Mendocino, California County Board raised fees on plastic ID cards used by people who use medical marijuana by 46.3 percent at a meeting on April 13, according to the Ukiah Daily Journal. The five-member board voted 3-2; a member of the board said he voted against the bill because it was printed in a way that made it difficult to read.

Second District supervisor John McCown said that the county must present information differently to insure that the townspeople understand information easier and more comprehensively.

Patients that use medical marijuana must now pay $90 for the plastic ID cards if they qualify for Medi-Cal, a California public healthcare system, and $180 if they do not.

The rate increase comes one week after the County Board of Supervisors of Sutter County, California voted against implementing plastic ID cards for medical marijuana users. The vote outraged advocates that believe the county board is using activism to deny residents a legal service.
