A new program to issue IDs at public schools is trying to spread the word about the importance of government identifcation to students in Jakarta
Education authorities in Indonesia’s capital city are preaching the importance of carrying secure ID cards to its citizens at an early age.
The city’s Population and Civil Registry recently cooperated with the Secondary Education Sub-department on a program to issue ID cards at public schools in the area. The program was designed both to offer a safe ID issuance program, by allowing students who need IDs to receive them without leaving school, and promote the city’s youth to sign up for identification cards.
Officials from both agencies recently explained the goals of the new ID card issuance program. Ahmad Fauzi, head of West Jakarta Population and Civil Registry, told Berita Jakarta "the students of [vocational high schools] who have been 17 years [old] should have an ID card. So, the mobile ID card service we are carrying out is to accommodate that matter by delivering service in schools."
Abdul Hamid, head of West Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-department, said "essentially, we will open our hand as wide as possible in order to realize the mobile ID card service at school."
ID card issuance programs have become important issues in other international programs, as authorities in Ghana have recently begun working to get residents to upgrade the technology for their ID cards.
