Police used an ID database in the investigation of a fraud criminal in Minnesota
Identification technology designed to determine the legitimacy of ID cards recently helped police in Austin, Minnesota conduct a forgery investigation.
While executing a search warrant, the forgery suspect insisted police had approached the wrong man. The suspect then provided an ID card with a different name on it than police had expected. The officers used a CLEAR identification database to search the information and found the suspect’s forged Missouri state ID card provided the identity of a man residing in San Antonio, Texas.
The identification technology allowed police to fully complete their search. As a result, the 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with three felony charges, including aggravated forgery and drug possession. At the scene, police also found a fake Social Security card and a forged Texas state birth certificate.
Technology for swapping identification information has become an important tool for law enforcement agencies across the country. Law enforcement agents in Plymouth County, Massachusetts received a tool that adapts to an Apple iPhone and can scan a suspect’s biometric information, identifying repeat criminals and registered sex offenders at the scene of the crime.
