Air travelers support scanning plastic ID cards for all passengers

19632915 300 Air travelers support scanning plastic ID cards for all passengersIn January, the Investor Relations Group conducted a survey in New York that found 86 percent of people support scanning plastic ID cards of all airline passengers prior to boarding a plane as a way to further bolster airline security.

Many of the survey’s respondents stated that they believe entrance into all municipal buildings should also require the presentation of some form of ID card.

"With the tragic events of September 11 still fresh in the memory of most New Yorkers, coupled with the recent breakdown in the security screening process at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands that allowed the underwear bomber to board the flight for Detroit, our survey clearly points out that the majority of New Yorkers are not opposed to the use of additional scanning of their personal identification by technology in order to ensure their security," J. Kevin Moran of IRG said.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air announced recently that are currently testing electronic boarding passes that can be scanned directly from the screen of a passenger’s mobile phone, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer. The tests are currently underway in several Northwestern American cities.
