Miami-Dade County Transit launches plastic ID cards

Miami-Dade County recently implemented a $42 million smartcard-based payment system.Miami-Dade County Transit, the 14th largest public transportation system in the United States, recently reported great success with the $42 million smartcard-based system it launched in early October 2009, according to ContactlessNews.com. MDCT installed the program to streamline the boarding and payment process for passengers.

Since the program’s implementation, the MDCT has reported few problems relating to consumer complaints. Using outside consultants and an experienced vendor helped the transition for the organization, the passengers and its workers. Also, analyzing the trends provided by the smartcard records has helped the organization make adjustments to its service schedule to make the process even more seamless for its customers.

"I give credit to my marketing staff. They led the whole outreach effort passionately and took every complaint seriously. When we had issues, we adjusted right away." said Harpal Kapoor, director of MDCT, according to the news provider.

Many cities have adopted similar systems in recent years, including Boston, San Francisco and New York. The New York borough of Staten Island recently announced that it plans to adopt a smartcard system in the near future.ADNFCR-3124-ID-19662397-ADNFCR
