Electric car drivers in Houston, Texas can now pay to recharge their cars with smartcards at new locations
Electric car-charging company Coulomb Technologies recently announced the opening of six new locations in downtown Houston, Texas where electric car owners can scan their smartcards to pay for recharging.
ChargePass smartcards are available on the company’s website for its ChargePoint electric car program. The company released a map of the Houston area’s 23 total locations, including the new six, where the smartcards can be used for recharging their customers’ electric cars. As part of its introductory program for the new locations, the company will provide ChargePass smartcards and user guides on-site for new users.
Officials with Coulomb Technologies recently explained how the smartcard program can help the electric car movement throughout the country. Richard Lowenthal, CEO of Coulomb Technologies, said "such a plan is paramount to the success of our nation in the building of an effective charging infrastructure."
He added the program "will be required to support and sustain an emerging EV market that is predicted to grow exponentially over the next few years."
Smartcards have been introduced in other cities to bring convenience to drivers. Parking meters in Charleston, South Carolina were recently equipped with smartcard readers to facilitate parking payments in the city’s downtown area.
