Smartcars given to tourists in Ljubljana, Slovenia will help them pay for tourist attractions and internet access
Travelers visiting Slovenia will be given smartcards for tourist needs as part of a program that was launched earlier this week.
The Urbana tourist plastic card will be offered to travelers in Slovenia’s capital city of Ljubljana. The program is expected to be spread throughout the entire country. The plastic cards were created for a convenient payment method for travelers who may be unfamiliar with the customs of the city.
Vesna Paradiz, a government representative who wrote the announcement on the program’s website, said "with the decision to upgrade the system, the method of payment has become quick and convenient."
The smartcards will offer features that allow for access to tourist attractions, the city’s public transportation services as well as free internet connectivity. The card’s technology is based on a similar Urbana resident smartcard for the city’s residents, created to offer convenient payment methods for library services and parking fees.
Regarding the smartcard’s functions, Paradiz added "significantly, it grants you the possibility of changing buses within 90 minutes of the payment of the first journey, at no additional change."
Smartcard solutions have consolidated resources to facilitate travel in other countries recently, as the South African government worked to integrate its smartcard public transportation card in time for the influx of tourists coinciding with last month’s FIFA World Cup tournament.
