Bangor commuters are encouraged to use Translink Ulsterbus’ smartcard fare system

Translink Ulsterbus in Bangor, United Kingdom is encouraging its passengers to start using smartcards to pay their fares, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Translink Ulsterbus drivers whose routes take them through the Bangor area will distribute smartlink vouchers to passengers who pay with cash. The vouchers can be redeemed for a free transit smartcard pass.

“[By] using a smartlink Multi-Journey card, passengers travelling on Bangor Town Services can save 50 pence per journey compared to cash-fares, and you can start by buying as few as five journeys which can be used over 12 months,” said Richard Hudson, Transklink’s service delivery manager, the Belfast Telegraph relays.

Hudson said users of the new plastic cards could save up to 200 GBP annually, as the new smartcards offer passengers unlimited travel for up to a month on all of the local town services.

Transit hubs around the globe have begun using smartcards to offer more convenience for riders. Hamilton Station in Ontario, Canada and TransLink lines in Vancouver, British Columbia have implemented the plastic cards to improve congestion in their stations and improve record tracking of passengers.
